Summary: This research investigates the cultural heritage of the Pomeranian community of Santa Maria de Jetibá (ES) through the narratives of its residents and public policies to safeguard and promote culture. By addressing this network of interactions, it maps preservation actions - public and private - and identifies the multiple meanings, values, productions and appropriations of local heritage. It constitutes the theoretical-epistemological foundation based
on the notions of information, memory, identity and heritage from studies of Information Science, History, Anthropology and Sociology. Defines in relation to the methodological path, the research as a qualitative and exploratory-descriptive approach regarding the objectives. It adopts bibliographical, documentary and field research as operational procedures. Based on the
guidelines and techniques of Oral History and ethnography, the semi-structured interviews allowed the identification of cultural assets in the community. From the data collected, Laurence Bardin´s procedures for content analysis were followed. It demonstrates from the results the confluence between the preservation actions carried out by the Public authority and the interests of the local residents in the present time. In addition, annoyances emerged, desires
for changes and propositions that approach Heritage Education guidelines. With information presented and discussions held, it is expected to collaborate with the strengthening of the cultural heritage of the Pomeranian community and studies of the heritage field in Information Science.
