Summary: Information Literacy has its genesis in the 1970s in the United States of America in a context of major sociotechnical transformations. Initially linked to the North American information industry, the theme expanded and reached other sectors of society. In Brazil, its late arrival in the 2000s was inaugurated from reflections that interrelated it with the role of libraries in the educational context. A little over twenty years after the initial research on Brazilian soil, this investigation analyzed the actions of the libraries of the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology regarding the mprovision of resources/products/services aimed at the development of Information Literacy. It was an exploratory research with a quantitative and qualitative approach, using the questionnaire as a data collection instrument and Bardin's content analysis as an analytical method. As a result, it is pointed out that the multilevel libraries that work towards the development of Information Literacy do so predominantly under the technical dimension, with a secondary focus on the ethical, aesthetic and political dimensions. The initiatives are mostly one-off, with the adoption of projects and programs being incipient. Most of the actions reflect conceptual confusion that impact on the full promotion of Information Literacy. Finally, it is evident that, although they promote actions that develop certain skills, attitudes and knowledge related to Information Literacy, this does not occur in a homogeneous, consolidated and satisfactory manner, indicating the need to invest in financial, technological and technological resources. expansion of the human talents of these libraries, in addition to promoting the continuing education of its professionals, with a view to improving their pedagogical practice based on conceptual theoretical conceptions consistent with the development of Information Competence in the scope of professional and technological education.
